Dehumanizing labels. Racist language and tone. Daily, individuals who have been system-impacted and court actors alike contend with the harsh racial climate that profoundly informs individuals’ experiences in Massachusetts criminal courts. This working group is tasked with identifying the many ways that racial antagonisms seep into daily operations and interactions, identify approaches that research has found can eliminate such harsh climates, and developing strategies through which institutional change will happen.
