Postdoctoral Fellowship
The Reimagining the Economy Project is looking to hire postdoctoral fellows for a two-year fellowship. We are interested in candidates with an interest in industrial policies (in either developing or developed country contexts); place-based policies in the United States (including workforce development, technological development, the local labor market impacts of the energy transition, etc.); and productive development policies targeting specific sectors, job creation, small business supports, etc. We are also interested in the underlying institutional structures and state capacity to implement such policy for developing and developed countries.
The fellow will join a tight-knit research community at CID and the Malcolm Wiener Center, working with our two faculty directors Gordon Hanson and Dani Rodrik. During the fellowship period, fellows will be expected to spend 50% of their time on their own research projects and the other 50% on joint research work with the RtE team. Fellows will have the opportunity to attend community events, seminars, and meetings, exchange best practices and ideas, discuss research, and network with the broader CID, Malcolm Wiener Center, and HKS communities.
We’ll be accepting and reviewing applications on a rolling basis until February 13, 2026. Visit the job posting to see more information and apply.
Predoctoral Research Fellows
Every year, we recruit Predoctoral Research Fellows to support and collaborate on a series of projects related to the regional dimensions of inequality in the United States and other countries. The project entails constructing and analyzing novel data on the factors that make regional economies prosperous and resilient to economic shocks and the effectiveness of industrial, place-based, and other policies in helping regions adjust to adverse changes in economic conditions. Our related research includes analyses of combatting inequality, how to build economies that create better jobs, local labor market impacts of the China trade shock and the energy transition, and the political consequences of localized job loss.
Applications typically open in January and are due in March (to begin work in the summer). When we are accepting applications, you can find exact deadlines and more detailed information on our website. You can also learn more about our past predoctoral fellows.
HKS Students
We work with HKS students on a number of projects including qualitative and quantitative research as well as research translation and data storytelling. When positions are open, we post them on the HKS Hub as well as our website. You can sign up for our newsletter (see link below) for regular updates.
