This full semester course will help students gain necessary skills in policy analysis and will teach techniques of persuasive communication. Through policy writing – blogs and memos – and short presentations, students will have the opportunity to practice important skills and techniques in communicating about policy change. We will learn how to use communications tools for impact. We will also expand our knowledge of the role of communications in policy making through case studies and useful theories. Students will also have the opportunity to work in groups in order to practice team writing, analysis and communications skills, and to learn from classmates.
As both DPI-820 and DPI-828 teach policy memo writing skills, students cannot register for both DPI-820 and DPI-828 for credit. Every course in the DPI communications series assumes a fluency with the English language.
