This seminar will critically examine current writings on race, class, and cumulative adversity, including the relative importance of social structure and culture in the social outcomes and life chances of the urban poor. It will also consider how the interaction of structural and cultural forces constrains and enables personal agency.  In addition, the seminar will explore the policy implications of these associations, including how we address inequality going forward.

Also offered by the Sociology Department as Soc 254.
