Applicants are urged to submit their financial assistance applications by the given deadlines to be considered for the limited financial assistance opportunities available, including merit fellowships. This page outlines the required steps of the application process; we recommend applicants bookmark or print this page as a useful resource.

The deadline applies to all incoming students, domestic and international.
Harvard Kennedy School makes financial assistance decisions at the time when applicants are admitted; returning students are not required to submit a second HKS financial aid application. Domestic students who are awarded federal loans and work-study will need to file an updated Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form online.
Students who will not enroll at Harvard Kennedy School for any part of the 2016-2017 academic year must notify their HKS financial aid counselor.
Applicants must first submit their admissions application before applying for financial assistance; read these steps. The Student Financial Services team will then email applicants their unique MYFAID student login ID, which will give them access to MYFAID where they will complete the HKS financial assistance application.
Applicants who are only applying for loans – and not scholarship assistance – do not need to meet the financial assistance application deadline listed above.
All Harvard Kennedy School applicants must take the following steps to apply for financial assistance.
Step 1: Complete your application on MYFAID
Login to MYFAID using the MYFAID student ID and PIN login credentials emailed to you by Student Financial Services. Choose your own PIN by clicking “First Time User” below the “Submit” button and answer the two identity-confirmation questions.
After you are logged in, click the “Apply Online” tab at the top of the page and complete your application. After submitting your application, you will see the message “Application completed successfully.” If you do not, review your application for missing information and resubmit.
Use either Firefox, Chrome, or Internet Explorer to complete your application; Safari is not supported.
Step 2: Submit additional documents
After completing Step 1, click on “Forms” then “Documents” to see a personalized list of documents you will need to submit; this list is based on your answers provided in the admission application.
If you are a domestic student, we encourage you to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) using the school code E00215. You can submit your FAFSA beginning January 1, 2016 but before the HKS financial assistance application deadline. If you have yet to file your 2015 taxes, you may complete your FAFSA using estimated information but you will be required to correct the data once you have filed.
Step 3: Wait for admission and financial assistance decisions
Financial assistance decisions for two-year program applicants are released shortly after admissions decisions.
Step 4: Accept or decline your financial assistance offer
You will be able accept or decline your financial assistance offer in MYFAID. Review the offer details under the “Messages” tab.
Step 5: Submit additional requested materials
You may be required to submit additional documentation for the financial assistance funds to be disbursed to your student account. They will be posted under the “Documents” tab in MYFAID.
All HKS returning students can find information about renewing their financial assistance by logging in here on KNet.
The opportunity to apply for financial assistance is only at the time of admission and initial enrollment. Returning students are not eligible to reapply for aid for their second year of study. Student Financial Services will notify eligible students if new financial aid opportunities become available for returning students and provide application instructions.
