Executive Education Alumnus Protecting the Rights of Syrian Refugees in Greece
Today, over 50,000 refugees are stranded in Greece. Since 2015, Dimitrios Koukiadis, has been on the front line of the crisis, working to protect the constitutional rights of 250 Syrian refugees living in Thessaloniki, Greece. Koukiadis, who is a practicing attorney at the Bar Associations in Greece and Germany, credits the online executive program, Leadership, Organizing and Action (LOA) with helping him to better organize his efforts.
“The effect of the LOA program on my campaign has been astonishing and overwhelming. The frameworks introduced by Professor Marshall Ganz including, building a leadership team, motivating my constituency, transforming the resources of my people, negotiating power, and public narrative gave me a whole new perspective of how to identify and strategize my tactics” says Koukiadis.
Ultimately, Koukiadis’ and the Bar Association’s campaign to provide free legal services and representation to Syrian refugees was approved by the Bar Council of Thessaloniki. In a National Parliament vote, many of their positions were also passed.
