HKS Faculty Webinar Series

This webcast aired on November 19, 2025.

Cybersecurity has been an ongoing and evolving concern since the Morris Worm in 1988 demonstrated the dangers of a world interconnected by data and powered by complex machines. While the techniques for securing our computers and networks have improved, the cyberattack surface has expanded even more rapidly. A threat that used to consist mainly of lone actors trying to exhibit their expertise has evolved into one dominated by criminal gangs and state-level actors, often acting in concert.

In this webinar, Professor Jim Waldo will explore the evolution of cyberthreats, and why cybersecurity remains an ever-shifting challenge. We will discuss some of the advances in defense and look at some of the emerging threats that will color the conflict in cyberspace during the next couple of years. While there is reason to be optimistic, we will also discuss why the threat remains and will continue to evolve.

This is a free webinar recording and does not qualify for a certificate.
