Miranda Stewart is Director of the International Tax Program and Visiting Professor of Tax Law at NYU School of Law, and Professor at the University of Melbourne Law School. Miranda’s current research explores how tax systems can respond to population ageing and increasing wealth inequality, the relevance of tax to the energy transition, and the role of international tax law in shaping the relationship between states, multinational enterprises, and international institutions including the United Nations. Miranda has advised governments, including the Australian Treasury, international bodies and NGOs on tax and budgeting and previously worked in private practice and in government. Miranda is an alum of the NYU ITP and was awarded a Doctor of Laws (LLD) from the University of Melbourne in recognition of her work on tax law and public finance, including her book Tax and Government in the 21st Century (2022, Cambridge University Press). Miranda is the President of the 78th International Fiscal Association Annual Congress to be held in Melbourne from 18-22 October 2026.
