On Monday, March 6, The Shorenstein Center will host a moderated discussion with Sarada Peri, former senior speechwriter for President Barack Obama and currently the head of Peri Communications. In addition to her work in the Obama White House, Peri worked for a wide variety of corporate and political clients with the Washington firm West Wing Writers. She also served in various policy roles on Capitol Hill and as a speechwriter at multiple Democratic National Conventions.

In a wide-ranging conversation with Rosenthal Fellow Adam Lashinsky, Peri will discuss the art of political speechwriting and, importantly, how integral the process of Presidential speechwriting is to the process of policymaking an administration. Peri offers tremendous insight into what goes into the words a President utters—and how those words are translated into policy and become part of history. With ample time for audience Q&A, this conversation will be especially helpful for anyone wanting to understand this crucial aspect of governing. Speechwriting, particularly at the Presidential level, sits at the intersection of government and political communication. Peri’s unique experiences will illuminate both.

Light refreshments will be served.
