Brazil, the ninth-largest economy in the world and the largest country in Latin America, has a large population and abundant natural resources. Nonetheless, its progress has often disappointed its citizens and the world. In the past 50 years the Brazilian economy has been extremely volatile, alternating good cycles and severe crises, and challenges persist.
