Join us for an insightful career talk featuring Leo Varadkar, former Prime Minister (Taoiseach) of Ireland (2017-2020 and 2022-2024) and currently a Senior Fellow with the Global LGBTQI+ Program at the Carr-Ryan Center for Human Rights. At the time of his first election, he was Ireland’s youngest-ever Taoiseach and the first to be biracial and openly gay.
Over his 13 years in government, he also served as Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Minister for Health and Minister for Social Protection. As Taoiseach, Varadkar helped lead Ireland through the COVID-19 pandemic, steered the nation through Brexit while safeguarding the Good Friday Agreement, and championed landmark social reforms, including the legalization of marriage equality, the repeal of Ireland’s abortion ban, and the enactment of gender recognition laws.
This event is designed to inspire and guide students who are interested in pursuing a career in politics or in government as they navigate their career paths, as well as those who learn about his personal journey, and gain valuable advice on developing essential skills for success.
