Sister Norma Pimentel is one of the most influential voices for human dignity and justice at the U.S.–Mexico border. As Executive Director of Catholic Charities of the Rio Grande Valley, she has provided shelter, food, and legal aid to hundreds of thousands of migrants and asylum seekers. She was named one of TIME Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in 2020 and was recently the commencement speaker at UCSF. Pope Francis relied on her guidance to understand the border crisis, and she continues to receive national recognition for her leadership and humanitarian work.
Jacqueline Bhabha, JD, MsC is a Professor of the Practice of Health and Human Rights at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, the Jeremiah Smith, Jr. Lecturer in Law at Harvard Law School, and Adjunct Lecturer in Public Policy at Harvard Kennedy School. She is the Director of Research at the FXB Center for Health and Human Rights. She has published extensively on issues of transnational child migration, refugee protection, children’s rights and citizenship.
