Headshots of Jonathan Cheng and Nick Burns

Join us for a moderated conversation between journalist Jonathan Cheng and Ambassador Nicholas Burns. Cheng brings a firsthand perspective on the rapidly evolving realities in China, a central player in today’s geopolitical landscape. The discussion will draw on Cheng’s on-the-ground reporting and Burns’ diplomatic experience to illuminate one of the world’s most consequential dynamics: U.S.–China relations.

Jonathan Cheng is the China bureau chief for The Wall Street Journal where he oversees coverage of the world's second-largest economy across a range of areas including politics, economics, business, technology and society. He was previously the Korea bureau chief, running coverage of the Korean peninsula, including politics and society in both North and South Korea.

Ambassador Nicholas Burns is a Professor of the Practice of Diplomacy and International Relations at the Kennedy School and the Founder and Faculty Chair of the Program on Diplomacy and Statecraft. Burns served as the U.S. Ambassador to the People's Republic of China from 2021-2025.
