CID Speaker Series Presents Ana Fernanda Hierro Barba, Technical Secretary of Consejo Nuevo León.
Consejo Nuevo León builds knowledge for better public policies by bringing together Academia, the private sector, civil society, and Government in a unique Open Government model in the Nuevo León region of Mexico. The Council emerged after the collaboration between civil society and Government led to a successful resolution of both a security and a natural disaster crisis. The State of Nuevo León realized that in order to meet its citizens' needs, state policy priorities needed to transcend politics and be based on assessed needs and stakeholder engagement. The Council has worked on capacity-building projects, such as the design of the investment unit for the Secretary of Public Finance; policy development, as in the state’s first mental health diagnosis or Mexico’s first subnational social mobility study. The Council is an open-government innovation in practice and, therefore, it has faced interesting challenges. After eight years of lessons learned and successful collaboration activities, the Council has continued to work as a bridge between applied research and public policy recommendations.
In this talk, Ana Fernanda Hierro Barba will discuss how Consejo Nuevo León work across sectors to achieve the region’s overarching goals. She will talk about the organization’s unique challenges and successes through a case-study example.
This is a hybrid event open virtually to the public and in-person at the Harvard Kennedy School for members of the Harvard Community. Lunch will be served.
