How do the arts and culture shape democracy and foster healthy communities? Where do creative expression and civic engagement intersect in today’s complex social and political moment? This inaugural event in the Culture in Action: Building Democracy Through the Arts series invites undergraduates and graduate students alike to an intimate, interactive conversation exploring the vital role of the arts in healthy communities, cultural citizenship, and public life.
Featuring Deborah F. Rutter, the discussion will examine the intersection of culture and policy in this polarized political moment. The event will open with a short reflection from Ms. Rutter. From there, a dynamic, informal conversation, guided by a student or faculty moderator, will unfold, with space for student questions and discussion.
This is an interactive event centered on student voices. Students are encouraged to RSVP and submit a question in advance. You’ll gain insight into career paths at the intersection of the arts and public service and have the opportunity to engage directly. To RSVP, please express interest below by Tuesday October 7. If you are selected via lottery, organizers will notify you by Wednesday October 8.
Space is limited for this event. Kindly RSVP and let us know if your plans change via email. For questions, contact ofa@fas.harvard.edu
