POSTPONED: EqualiTEA A Talk on AI Gender Bias w Hannah Riley Bowles & Nadja Born

THIS EVENT IS BEING POSTPONED UNTIL THE SPRING SEMESTER. A NEW DATE WILL BE SHARED SOON VIA THE WAPPP NEWSLETTER.

This discussion with Hannah Riley Bowles—WAPPP co-director and Roy E. Larsen Senior Lecturer in Public Policy and Management at HKS—and WAPPP research fellow Nadja Born will focus on their recent research showing gender bias in AI negotiation coaching. Their study, with MIT's Jared Curhan, examines how Large Language Models (LLMs) often encode subtle gender biases, leading to unequal outcomes even when men and women ask for the same career negotiation advice. In their talk, Hannah and Nadja will discuss specific findings and explain how this bias has the potential to reinforce traditional gender roles and exacerbate gaps in pay, leadership, and caregiving. They will also address how their findings underscore the need for rigorous bias auditing and mitigation to ensure AI-assisted negotiation tools promote equity and avoid perpetuating harmful gender stereotypes in career-related negotiations. This talk is part of EqualiTEA: Conversations on Women & Gender Equity at the Women and Public Policy Program. Tea (and coffee) will be served!
