Europe's China Challenge: the Narrow Path for France, Germany and the EU Photo

The European Union is facing a difficult balancing act in its relationships with China and Russia. In the context of the Ukraine war, European leaders are trying to engage China - after three years of limited relations due to Covid-19.

Following Emmanuel Macron and Ursula Von der Leyen visits to China, this seminar will look at the "narrow path" of European leaders caught in between a very aggressive Russia, and two superpowers -  China and the United States. Unlike the latter, European leaders do not want a full decoupling from China, but Von der Leyen is calling for a "de-risking" of EU-China relations.
