Ezra Zwaeli, Director of Speechwriting, Office of Boston Mayor Michelle Wu will host three 75-minute sessions on the practical mechanics of political speechwriting. Each session will explore core, but often overlooked, elements of the craft.
Session One, Friday, September 20: Writing Tests, Interviews, and Earning the Trust of your Principal
- Learn to navigate the application and interview process
- Prepare for the writing test
- Lay a solid foundation of trust between you and your principal
Session Two, Friday, September 27: Research, Ideation, and Community Engagement
- Learn to map out the speechwriting process
- Learn how to research, brainstorm, and engage with stakeholders
Session Three, Friday, October 4: Revision, Delivery, Rest, and Inspiration
- Learn how to be a skilled partner in the competitive editing process
- Learn how (and when) to coach a principal through delivery
- Learn where to look for rejuvenation and inspiration after a big speech wraps and before the next one begins
