Executing Industrial Policy: Lessons from the CHIPS Act

This in-person seminar will be given by Michael Schmidt, Distinguished Visitor at Princeton University and Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Institute for Progress and Todd Fisher, M-RCBG Research Fellow and Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Institute for Progress. It will be moderated by Lawrence H. Summers, Charles W. Eliot University Professor, President Emeritus at Harvard University and the Director of the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business & Government at HKS.

Schmidt was the former Director of the CHIPS Program Office (CPO) and Fisher served as its Chief Investment Officer. The CPO organized the implementation of a $39 billion federal initiative to incentivize semiconductor manufacturing in the U.S. and executed 20 final award agreements totaling $34 billion, unlocking more than $450 billion in total investment in U.S. chip production.

This seminar discussion will take place in Nye B (5th floor Taubman Building) for those with an HUID. Refreshments will be served.

Please also join us at the Industrial Policy Conference taking place on October 22, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm. Learn more and register.
