Flows of FDI into developing economies recently fell to their lowest levels in two decades. In this roundtable, HU-FAS Professors Alisha Holland and Gautam Nair of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University, Vishnu Venugopalan, an officer of the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and Practitioner-in-Residence at HKS, and M-RCBG Senior Fellow David Mizrachi will explore possible causes of this downturn—such as tariff hikes, international dispute procedures, rising public debt, rule of law, and political or ideological fluctuations—as well as the consequences. We invite rigorous audience participation to think through what additional research is needed to understand a changing FDI landscape.
