M-RCBG Senior Fellow Gareth Davies MP will be leading a study group titled:
Geofinance: Finance, Not Firepower, Is the Battlefield of the 21st Century
Geopolitical influence is no longer shaped only by armies, empires, or grand alliances, but increasingly by assets, liquidity, and a state’s control and influence over important global financial infrastructure. This strategic shift is called geofinance. It is defined by a state’s deliberate use of financial markets, instruments, institutions, reserves, and capital flows to exert influence and shape the global geopolitical order. It can be a means for smaller but strategically savvy states to leverage their financially strategic influence on the global stage.
This study group will explore the theory and practice of geofinance and discuss how states can achieve disproportionate influence through financial power.
