Over the next decade, the United States will host a series of Global Games unlike any in history - starting with the 2026 FIFA World Cup and culminating in the 2034 Salt Lake City Winter Olympics. These events will put unprecedented pressure on U.S. transportation systems, from major hubs like Los Angeles preparing for the 2028 Olympics - the largest peacetime event in world history - to mid-sized cities like Kansas City, where World Cup visitors will outnumber the city’s population.
To meet these challenges, transit agencies are making historic infrastructure investments, some of which could leave lasting legacies for regional mobility.
Join the Taubman Center for State and Local Government for an executive panel discussion exploring how these mega-events create both obstacles and opportunities for transit systems - shaping the future of urban transportation in the U.S.
Panel:
Phillip Eng – General Manager & CEO, Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA)
Stephanie Wiggins – CEO, Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LA Metro)
Frank White III – President & CEO, Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA)
Moderated by Samantha Silverberg – Taubman Fellow; former Special Assistant to the President for Transportation and Infrastructure Policy, White House (2021–2025)
