Inside the Story: Reporting on Washington's Power Players ft. Chris Whipple

What happens behind the scenes before a major political profile reaches the page? Join the Institute of Politics for a Food for Thought conversation with Vanity Fair Contributing Writer and IOP Fall 2026 Fellow Chris Whipple, whose news-making profile of JD Vance was recently published.

Whipple will offer a behind-the-scenes look at how he reported the story, including the interviews, relationships, source development, and reporting decisions required to capture the people and institutions shaping American politics. Drawing on decades of experience reporting on presidents, policymakers, and other powerful newsmakers, he will share the craft, challenges, and judgment that go into reporting a story from the inside.

Lunch will be served.
