Leadership Lessons from GE's Legendary CEO Jack Welch: Hits and Misses Photo

Jack Welch, who died last week, was widely viewed as one of the great CEOs of globalization, leading a company operating in 140 nations with 300,000 employees during the last quarter of the 20th Century.

Ben Heineman, a senior fellow at the Belfer Center and at Harvard Law School, was head of law and public affairs for more than two-thirds of Welch's 20-year tenure at GE.  Prior to that, Heineman was assistant secretary for planning and evaluation at the then US Department of Health, Education and Welfare. With these roles in mind, Heineman will discuss the relevance of Welch's core leadership tenets and skills to major public as well as private organizations---as well as some of his missteps.
