Public Finance and the Energy Transition

Public finance is a critical instrument for managing the complex risks and opportunities of the energy transition. Yet little is known about how decision-makers, particularly in finance ministries, are approaching this challenge.

In this Energy Policy Seminar, Sam Loni, Research Fellow with the Belfer Center's Environment and Natural Resources Program, will present new survey evidence from more than 60 finance ministries worldwide on how these institutions perceive the macro-fiscal implications of the energy transition, and how these considerations are being incorporated into their analytical and decision-making frameworks. Loni will also examine the key gaps revealed by the survey and outline a set of pressing questions that finance ministries are currently grappling with.

Q&A to follow. Buffet-style lunch will be served.

Registration: RSVP required. A Harvard University ID is required for in-person attendance; all are welcome to attend via Zoom.

Recording: The seminar will be recorded and available to watch on the Belfer Center's YouTube channel.

Accessibility: To request accommodations or who have questions about access, please contact Liz Hanlon (ehanlon@hks.harvard.edu) in advance of the session.
