REGISTRATION FULL: Data Carpentry - Day 2 - OpenRefine and R Photo

Registration for this workshop is full. Please email alessandra_seiter@hks.harvard.edu with any questions.

The Carpentries teach foundational coding and data science skills to researchers worldwide. Every semester, the HKS Library hosts a two-day, beginner-friendly Carpentries workshop that will give you the foundational knowledge to pursue data-intensive research with confidence. The basic tools and concepts taught in these workshops will help you complete your assignments more quickly and with less frustration, and will help prepare you for a public policy landscape where data and technical skills are in growing demand. As a participant, you are encouraged to support your peers and apply what you’ve learned to your own research problems.

In our Spring 2024 Data Carpentry workshops, you’ll learn:

  • Day 1: Spreadsheets and R -- how to enter, format, and organize your data, plus how to analyze your data in a reproducible way.
  • Day 2: OpenRefine and R -- how to clean and fix errors in your data, plus more on how to analyze your data in a reproducible way.

This workshop is geared toward graduate students and other researchers. You don’t need to have any previous knowledge of the tools presented at this workshop.

Requirements: Bring a laptop with a Mac, Linux, or Windows operating system (not a tablet, Chromebook, etc.) on which you have administrative privileges. Before the workshop, download the programs we will be learning (listed on the workshop website under “Setup”).

Accessibility: The HKS Library encourages individuals with disabilities to participate in our events. To request an accommodation, please email library_research@hks.harvard.edu or call 617-495-1300.
