Join CID on April 17 for a conversation with former Argentinian Minister of the Treasury Hernán Lacunza, who will draw on his experience at the forefront of fiscal policy and crisis management to reflect on today’s shifting economic landscape.
The discussion will examine the core challenges facing emerging economies in an uncertain global context what we know, what we don’t, and what we often assume. It will explore lessons from Latin America, where macroeconomic stability and natural resource wealth have not always delivered sustained growth, and consider the evolving role of productive policies what has worked, what hasn’t, and why.
Focusing on Argentina, the conversation will assess the current reform program, including its strengths, risks such as a potential “Argentine Dutch Disease,” and the broader balance between economic consistency and social sustainability. It will also address the political economy of reform, including the risks of reversibility and the relationship between stability, employment, and public support.
This event is hosted by the Harvard Center for International Development and will be held in a hybrid format. All are welcome. Harvard ID holders are encouraged to attend in person, while non-HUID guests are invited to join via livestream or access the event recording afterward.
