Trade and Manufacturing — What's the Point of Making T-Shirts in America?
Making more things in America has been one of several justifications for the Trump administration’s tariffs. But the view that manufacturing is a valuable economic activity and that the United States needs to reinvigorate its manufacturing base has had support across the political divide, including from the Biden administration.

Is it enough to rally around industrial strategies for “critical” sectors? Who gets to define what is critical? And why do so many people think T-shirts and underwear are unimportant when just about everyone wears a T-shirt and underwear (hopefully) every single day?!
