Topic: How Did We Get Here? Challenges to Campaigns and Elections Through the YearsDescription: The 2016 election revealed how vulnerable we have become to malign influence and cyber operations targeting our election infrastructure and processes. But this was far from the first time adversaries have tried to shape American political discourse. Nor was it the first time access to the polls and election returns were in doubt. Can our history of expanding voting rights and system of Federalism adapt to the challenges of 21st Century threats? Mark Harvey leads a discussion on the myriad challenges to elections and what can be done to help secure them.IOP Resident Fellow Mark P. Harvey is the former Special Assistant to the President and Senior Director for Resilience Policy on the National Security Council Staff, and over the past 15 years, has helped author a wide variety of plans, policies, and doctrine to foster resilience through effective risk management.
