To rein in the unchecked power of large private companies, Congress established a number of law enforcement agencies and regulators to limit political influence-peddling. Some of these agencies were established as commissions and boards with members drawn from both political parties. In 2025, the White House attempted to remove individuals from commissions and boards.
In this session, former Consumer Financial Protection Bureau Director Rohit Chopra will be joined in person by Federal Trade Commissioner Rebecca Kelly Slaughter, who has challenged the President's actions. Trump v. Slaughter is currently pending before the Supreme Court. Former Chair of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission Charlotte A. Burrows will also join the session virtually. We will discuss the future of law enforcement and regulatory agencies. We will also explore the future of consumer rights and civil rights in the digital age.
