Nobel Peace Prize Laureate and global human rights advocate Nadia Murad joins Ambassador Samantha Power for a conversation on resilience, justice, and what it means to rebuild a life after unimaginable trauma. Drawing on Murad’s new book, I Choose My Beginning: A Story of Courage and Activism, they will discuss her journey from survivor and activist to a woman reclaiming space for herself as a student, wife, and friend.
In 2014, Murad was abducted and held captive by ISIS after the group attacked her Yazidi community in Iraq. After escaping, she transformed her experience into a powerful global campaign against conflict-related sexual violence and for the rights of survivors and displaced communities.
Murad and Power will reflect on the enduring importance of bearing witness, demanding accountability, defending human dignity, and finding the courage to begin again.
