Winning as a Team: How the Las Vegas Raiders are Supporting Civic Engagement

In these times, sports are among just a few things that bring tens of millions of Americans together with a shared sense of joy and belonging. As a result, more than ever, teams have a role to play in building community and connection.

In 2024, the Las Vegas Raiders demonstrated this power in action. Join us on November 3rd for a discussion about how the team turned Allegiant Stadium into the state’s most popular voting location—and into a space where families could participate in the election in a way that was efficient and fun. Significantly, our research shows Allegiant Stadium attracted a surge of young voters and people who never voted before.

What is the potential for sports to bring people together across differences, improve civic discourse, and strengthen citizen engagement? Why did the Raiders undertake this effort, and why should other sports teams consider doing the same? Do sports speak to young people in a way that could be used to build social bonds and cultivate greater civic participation, both online and offline?

Speakers include:

Francisco Aguilar, Secretary of State of Nevada

Piper Overstreet-White, Senior Vice President of Government and Community Relations, Las Vegas Raiders

Scott Pioli, Five-time NFL Executive of the Year and 3x Super Bowl Champion with the New England Patriots

Tova Wang (Moderator), Director of Research Projects in Democratic Practice, Ash Center for Democratic Governance and Innovation
