The short, witty, philosophical sayings known as aphorisms are the oldest written art form on the planet. And, from the form's beginnings in ancient China and Egypt to the present day, aphorisms have always been about how to govern — the self, the state, society.

In this combination talk/writing workshop, adjunct lecturer in public policy James Geary, author of The World in A Phrase: A Brief History of the Aphorism, outlines the evolution of the political aphorism and guides participants in crafting their own aphoristic political insights that are clear, concise, and compelling.
