
Charles Worthington (he/him) is a software developer and product designer who has worked at the forefront of technology and public service delivery since 2013. He is the current Chief Technology Officer at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), a position he has held since 2017. At the VA, Charles leads the team responsible for modernizing VA’s web and mobile digital products and VA’s efforts to adopt modern technical delivery best practices. Prior to the VA, Charles worked at the White House from 2014-2017 where he was the co-author of the Digital Service Playbook, and co-creator of the U.S. Digital Service, an organization created in the aftermath of the rescue of the Healthcare.gov service that is tasked to help ensure the country’s most important digital services work well for all Americans.
Charles earned a BA from Harvard University. He lives in Washington D.C. with his wife and two daughters. He is an avid runner and an aspiring artist.
