Hassenfeld Family Foundation Rhode Island Public Service Fellowship


The John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University is pleased to announce that applications are being accepted through Wednesday, March 27, 2024 for the Hassenfeld Family Foundation Rhode Island Public Service Fellowship

The Hassenfeld Family Foundation Rhode Island Public Service Fellowship was established through the generosity of the Hassenfeld Family Foundation to support promising leaders working in public service in Rhode Island. The Fellowship is designed to provide advanced public management training to individuals committed to the public welfare of Rhode Island’s citizens through outstanding service in its state, local, and nonprofit agencies. 

The fellowship can be applied to selected Executive Education programs that run between May 1 and November 30, 2024. The award provides full tuition (including housing and most meals) for one of six Executive Education programs at Harvard Kennedy School. These programs are listed below.

On the application form, simply type “Seeking Hassenfeld” in response to the question “Who will be the financial sponsor of your participation?” 

Applicable Programs:
Senior Executives in State and Local Government
This three-week program is designed for state and local government officials and nonprofit leaders who work closely with the government. The program operates as an interactive classroom, where participants will develop new conceptual frameworks for addressing policy issues, examining innovative partnerships, and practicing the skill of creating and maintaining conversations that lead to change.           

Comparative Tax Policy and Administration
This ten-day program brings together high-level practitioners from government, academia, and the private sector to examine the latest developments in the design and implementation of tax systems around the world.  The curriculum provides participants with practical tools – along with detailed examples of their application – to help formulate the most appropriate tax policies and tax administration for their particular environments. 

Executive Skill Development Programs
These programs aim to enhance specific skills essential to successful leadership such as organizational performance strategies, negotiations, creative and innovative solutions to public problems through cross-sector collaboration, and decision making.
