Meet MC/MPA Mason Fellow Decontee T. King-Sackie

August 19, 2013

Every year the Mid-Career/MPA Mason Fellows are the first to arrive on campus for a two-week summer seminar program. This year, several of them have volunteered to introduce themselves through the Harvard Kennedy School School (HKS) admissions blog with a self-authored post.
Below is a selected portion of the blog recently written by Decontee T. King-Sackie:
I am a Liberian, and a Mason Fellow class of 2014. My work experience spans over eight years in the public, non-profit, and private sectors. I worked with the Ministry of Finance as an Assistant Minister for Revenue and Commissioner of Customs and Excise. My life in the public sector afforded me the opportunity to see firsthand the many challenges that come along with rebuilding a nation following a devastating war. I contributed to this rebuilding effort through the automation of the customs business process while serving as the Commissioner of Customs and Excise.
My quest to contribute even more to the rebuilding efforts led me to Harvard Kennedy School as a Mason Fellow. The journey, thus far, has been very exciting and challenging, but also very rewarding. The program affords you an opportunity to make rational decisions using analytical data. The diverse group presents an opportunity for you to hear about many different countries economic, political, and social challenges and successes. The bonds that are formed amongst the Mason Fellows are as strong as that of a biological family and even more.
While the year’s journey is still ahead, the summer program is equipping us with the right tools and skills to hit the ground running in September. The support and encouragement from the faculty and staff of HKS is so commendable.
