Sandra Naranjo MPA/ID 2014 has been named vice president of Ecuador, the second woman in the country’s history to hold the position. At 31 years old, she is also the youngest Vice President to fill the role.
Naranjo will fill the position until February 19, replacing the incumbent, Jorge Glas, while he runs as a vice presidential candidate in the upcoming national elections. During her time in office, she will remain in charge of the National Secretariat for Planning and Development (SENPLADES).
Prior to attending Harvard Kennedy School, Naranjo earned her degree in Economics and Finance from the University of San Francisco, Quito.
“Sandy was a wonderful student here in the MPA/ID Program,” shared Carol Finney, director of the Kennedy School’s MPA/ID program. “After graduation in 2014, she returned to Ecuador, as Minister of Tourism. Since then she’s had increasing responsibilities in the government, and the faculty join me in saying that we are very proud of her!”
