In 2025, 607 Harvard Kennedy School graduates from 86 countries and territories pursued careers that tackled complex public challenges around the world.

They entered a global landscape defined by rapid technological change, economic uncertainty, geopolitical tension, and growing demands for resilience in public institutions. In this environment, addressing public challenges increasingly requires leaders who can navigate complexity, adapt to change, and work across the boundaries of government, markets, and civil society.

Members of the Class of 2025 began their post-HKS careers in 48 countries and territories and across 28 U.S. states, Washington, D.C., and Puerto Rico. Their work spans government, nonprofit organizations, multilateral institutions, and the private sector. Many assumed roles focused on areas central to global policy debates, including technology governance, economic policy, education, community and economic development, and energy, environment, and sustainability. Among these, technology emerged as the most frequently cited focus, underscoring the growing importance of digital transformation and technology governance.

The Class of 2025 also reflects the broad range of professional paths represented at HKS. Some graduates entered their first full-time roles in policy and leadership, while others—many already experienced professionals—pursued new opportunities across sectors or returned to organizations where they had previously worked. Compared with 2024, a larger share of graduates returned to prior employers, bringing new skills and perspectives to familiar missions and often taking on expanded responsibilities.

Across sectors and regions, members of the Class of 2025 are applying the skills developed at HKS to address public challenges and strengthen institutions at a time when effective, principled leadership is especially needed.

At a glance: knowledge rate of total grads settled and employed

Of 604 graduates, we have a knowledge rate of 525. 441 are settled and 417 report employment in 48 countries/territories and 28 U.S. states plus Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico

Knowledge rate: The HKS Office of Career Advancement (OCA) collected data from April-November 2025 using a variety of techniques, including an exit survey and follow-up survey, individual email inquiries, and publicly available sources. The survey response rate was 67% (which excludes data based solely on research), while the knowledge rate (which includes data based on research) is 86%.

Settled: Defined as those who are employed, pursuing further education, running for office, or not seeking employment. Of the 84% graduates settled by the end of November 2025, 79% of graduates were employed (45% with a new employer; 28% returning to their pre-HKS employer; 4% launching new ventures; and 2% self-employed); 3% were continuing their education; 1% were running for office; and 0.4% were not seeking employment. Beginning with the Class of 2023 Employment Snapshot report, we updated how we calculate our knowledge rate to include those who indicated unsettled at graduation; thus, the settled rate may appear lower compared to prior years.

Employed: Defined as those who started a job with a new employer, are returning to a previous employer, are self-employed, or launching a new venture.

Master in Public Policy

The two-year Master in Public Policy (MPP) Program prepares students to understand complex global and local policy problems and design concrete solutions.

Through courses, real-world exercises, and fieldwork, MPP students master a conceptual tool kit grounded in the social sciences and adapted for action. They arrive at HKS committed to improving the world and equip themselves by developing broad analytic competency—cultivating intellectual honesty, a hunger for evidence, and the ability to distill answerable questions from the messy realities of public problems.

MPP Class of 2025 highlights

  • Among graduates who reported prior full-time professional work experience, 73% had three or more years of experience by the time they started at HKS.
  • Of those employed, 70% took a new job with a new employer; 16% returned to their previous employer in a new role; 12% returned to a previous employer in the same role; 1% were independently or self-employed; and 1% launched new ventures.
  • The vast majority of MPP students completed at least one summer internship, across the United States and around the world.
