Make your summer smarter. Hire HKS students as interns.
Your organization benefits from the skills, drive, and knowledge of an emerging public policy expert. In return, our students gain relevant hands-on experience, put their HKS training to work, and deepen their understanding of professional fields and sectors where they may steer their careers after graduation.
Summer internships typically run 8 to 12 weeks, from late May through August. We will work with you to design suitable roles if your organization does not have internships as part of its organizational structure.
Let’s get started:
- Read our summer internship guidelines and create an opportunity that moves your work forward, utilizing the skills and experience of an HKS student
- Determine your timeline. Our students actively look for internships from December to April; however, we will gladly promote your internship opportunities to meet your hiring timeline
- Determine whether your internship positions are paid. HKS may provide limited summer funding support for students in unpaid internships in the public or nonprofit sector; however, they must have offers in hand by mid-March to be eligible to apply
- Post internships on JACK or email them to us
Contact our employer relations team for information or how to connect with our students.
I pursued an opportunity to move to Manila to help a local nonprofit organization launch an agricultural development program for coconut farmers.

Dukakis Summer Fellows Program
The Michael S. Dukakis Governors’ Summer Fellows Program is an opportunity for U.S. governors' offices to engage HKS students. A Summer Dukakis Fellow serves for 10 to 12 weeks in a governor's executive office. We invite you to read through a series of articles written by fellows about their summer work, and review a sample state proposal to help you with applying to the program. Contact us for more information.
