Make your summer smarter. Hire a Harvard Kennedy School student as an intern.

Your organization gets the skills, knowledge and focus of an emerging public policy expert by adding an HKS student intern to your team. In return, they accrue valuable experience and exposure, put their skills and training to work and deepen their professional knowledge of fields and sectors they envision working in after graduation.

Summer internships typically run 8 to 12 weeks, from late May through August. If your organization doesn’t currently have internship positions as part of its organizational structure, we will work with you to craft suitable internship opportunities to post to JACK, our comprehensive job bank and career management system.

HKS Summer Internships

Where in the world do HKS students intern?

Summer Internship Funding

Most HKS student interns receive summer stipends from their hiring organizations. If you are from a public or nonprofit organization that cannot provide stipends, HKS has limited funding to support our students on their summer internships. Just note that application deadlines for summer internship funding are as early as February and March—students often need an offer in hand to apply for funding.

Dukakis Summer Fellows Program

The Michael S. Dukakis Governors’ Summer Fellows Program is an opportunity for U.S. governors' offices to engage HKS students. A Summer Dukakis Fellow serves for 10-12 weeks in a governor's executive office. We invite you to read through a series of articles written by fellows about their summer work, and review a sample state proposal to help you with applying to the program. As always, contact us for more information.
