You know this feeling: the drive to make a difference, the desire to do more, and be more. To give back to the people around you and to the world.

At Harvard Kennedy School, we share a passion for public service. We believe that smart public policy and inspired public leadership can make people’s lives safer, more prosperous, and more fulfilling. Whether around the corner or on the other side of the globe, Harvard Kennedy school students, staff, faculty and alumni are doing their part to serve.

One way members of the HKS community live out their commitment to service locally is by participating in Public Service week and HKS Serves. Co-sponsored by Degree Programs and Student Affairs (DPSA), the Dean's Office, the Student Public Service Collaborative and other groups, these events are an opportunity for students, staff and faculty to volunteer on behalf of local organizations in Cambridge and Greater Boston.

President John F. Kennedy’s famous call to action inspires our research, but it also fosters a commitment to public service, reinforcing the idea that students, faculty and staff have a responsibility to offer their time and talent to the Boston community.
