China's Rise, America's Response

Week Three: Neighborhood Bully?  Guest: Dean Cheng, Heritage Foundation

With guest Dean Cheng, a research associate and analyst of China's military with the Heritage Foundation, this session will delve into China's increasingly assertive territorial claims against its neighbors.  This comes comes against the backdrop of the Peoples Liberation Army's modernization and rapidly expanding military budget that has grown to more than $120 billion today. The Obama administration has responded with its own “pivot” to Asia after the preoccupation with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. What are China's intentions?  What are the prospects for outright hostilities? What are the chances for improved Sino-U.S. military-to-military relations? And what should be America's response to this new challenge in the Pacific?
