While frequently missing in development projects, a well-designed and multi-faceted communications strategy can greatly enhance effectiveness. This session will present principles of creating and implementing such communication programs, illustrated with examples drawn from Mr. Simon’s work in Africa and his current work in Haiti. Jamil Simon is President of Spectrum Media, an independent producer of educational programs and documentaries. As communications strategist for many development agencies, he has designed and helped to implement innovative communications and outreach programs, in Africa, Eastern Europe and the Far East. He is currently directing a major communications project in Haiti. Now retired from a career with the Harvard Institute for International Development and The Rockefeller Foundation, he is the founder of www.DevComWorkshop.org , an organization created with filmmakers to help students use video effectively for development and also to produce documentaries about development issues.
