The View From the Back of the Plane: Assessing John Kerry’s Globetrotting First Year

As part of the Future of Diplomacy Project's new series on women in international reporting, Anne Gearan, Diplomatic Correspondent of The Washington Post will offer her observations of the Secretary of State's first year and reflect on her long career as part of the fourth power in the state, the press. This event is co-sponsored by the Women And Public Policy Program and the Shorenstein Center and part of the HKS Public Service Week.

Anne Gearanspent the bulk of her career as a wire reporter for the Associated Press (AP) where she broke countless big stories on beats as varied as politics, Defense, State, the Supreme Court and the White House. From 2004 to 2009, she was the AP’s chief diplomatic correspondent and traveled extensively with the secretary of state. More recently, she was the news service’s national security editor and national security correspondent. She left AP a White House correspondent, focussing on foreign affairs and U.S. policy toward hot spots like Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iran, Syria and China. She joined the Washington Post in 2012.
