Abstract
The article looks at educational accountability systems in the context of the implementation of the U.S. Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). The authors summarize research from the fields of behavioral economics and experimental psychology related to accountability and discuss how accountability is upheld in other professions such as medicine. Topics include high-stakes testing, the value of feedback from peers and students, and teacher coaching.
