Abstract
The article discusses the centennial of the U.S. Supreme Court decision in *Pierce v. Society of Sisters*, which affirmed parents' rights to send their children to private schools, thereby legitimizing school choice in America. The decision arose in response to an Oregon law that aimed to eliminate private school options, influenced by anti-Catholic sentiment. While *Pierce* did not significantly alter the educational landscape at the time, it set a precedent that has influenced subsequent rulings and developments in the school choice movement, including the expansion of homeschooling and the inclusion of religious schools in voucher programs. The article highlights how *Pierce* opened avenues for future educational options, despite its limited immediate impact.
