Handbook of Climate Change Economics, Volume II
2025
Abstract
This chapter introduces readers to research on the economics of international trade and climate change, a topic of rising prominence in both academic research and global policy conversations. We intend for this document to serve as a resource for students interested in pursuing research on these topics, economists from any specialization who are new to work on either international trade or climate change, and policymakers looking for a summary of existing research on present topics of debate. The chapter covers a core set of facts relevant to understanding the context of trade and climate change, an overview of the key economic intuition and primary modeling tools used in research, and a broad summary of existing evidence and potential avenues for future research.
