Abstract

The article presents a speech by development economist Lant Pritchett delivered in the Belmont First Ward in Belmont, Massachusetts on May 8, 2011. It discusses the role of women in the Mormon church and in various global societies and the religious aspects of abundance. The author presents various personal stories about the women his family met while living in Indonesia and India. It is suggested that religious communities devoted to God's abundance should emphasize giving over receiving.
