The chapter generally seeks to establish and clarify the conceptual framework of political support and, in particular, to specify the meaning of political trust with regard to its definition, function, and empirical operationalization. Drawing upon the seminal work of David Easton, this chapter identifies the idea of levels and components of systems support and provides guidance for comparative scholars interested in quantitative research based on population surveys.
