How Economic and Budget Analysis Informs Policymaking

The role of our panel is to talk about how economic and budget analysis informs policymaking. I will focus on the role of the Congressional Budget Office. I’ll begin by briefly describing the analysis that CBO does, and then I’ll explain why I think that analysis matters. I realize that some of you here today could do this part of the program as well as I can—and maybe better. But the goal of this conference, as you know, is to bring together people with different backgrounds, so I hope that those of you who know everything I am about to say will bear with me.
